You have questions, we have answers. Here is a list of the most frequently asked questions regarding overhang and support.

How much overhang can I have without support?

You can have up to 10" inches of overhang before support is needed.​

Do I still need support if I'm only going to 12" overhang?

Yes, anything over or beyond 11" inches needs some form of support.

Is there a general rule of thumb when it comes to supports and what is needed?

You can have up to 10" inches unsupported safely.

Any overhang that between 12" - 15" inches requires some form of steel or corbel support.

Any overhang beyond 15" inches requires some form of additional leg support.

What is the most common support?​

Flat steel hidden supports are the most used and most common.

What if I dont have supports in place before the day of countertop install?

This might be a safety risk and we will not be able to install your job until the supports are in place.

How long, wide or thick do the supports need to be?

This will all depend on what your trying to achieve and the material being used.

We can help guide you once we template, see the job area and have more information.

Do you install supports?

No, Stone Concepts does not install supports. This will need to be done by you or your contractor.

We are not officially licensed contractors and do not have the precise tools needed to do it.

 

Where do I get supports from?

If you have a contractor or handyman, they should be able to get them for you.

If you are doing this on your own, there are a few places you can buy them locally. You can also buy them online.

Just make sure no matter where you get them or before you get them that you are buying the right thing.

Talk to us before you buy them in order to confirm exactly what you need.

I've been told my contractor, handyman or cabinet provider that most countertop places should be able to do this?

Stone Concepts does not install supports. Supports are typically always installed by your cabinet maker or contractor.

We are not licensed cabinet craftsman and do not have the precise tools to do this.

I have an island with an upper-hop up style eat on area. How would this need to be supported?
